Member of Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS)
Aptos sedation dentist, Terry W. Forsberg, DDS, is proud to be a member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation. (DOCS). He believes that each and every patient he treats at Advanced Smile Designs of Aptos, California has the right to enjoy a pain free and non-threatening dental experience through the use of conscious sedation. Dr. Forsberg has completed both the basic course offered by DOC's "Oral Sedation Dentistry" as well as DOC's advanced course in "Sedation Solutions."
What is Conscious Sedation?
The principle behind conscious sedation dentistry is allowing the patient to be alert and in control of their bodily functions and breathing while feeling relaxed and anxiety free. DOCS was founded with the mission: "to make sure that every patient has access to safe, comfortable, anxiety-free dental care."
The Making of DOCS
The founders of DOCS, Dr. Michael Silverman and Dr. Anthony Feck spent years in their own practices treating patients who were anxious and afraid of having dental procedures performed on them. They began to join forces and work towards educating other dentists on the safe and effective treatment of extremely fearful patients. Their plan was to create an atmosphere where the patient was not afraid and the dentist could perform their procedures with compassion, efficiency and effectiveness.
The methods DOCS teaches to professional medical and dental practitioners are based on the combined study of pain management, sedation, and patient psychology. A properly trained dentist, such as Dr. Forsberg, can customize his treatments based on his patients' psychological and pharmacological needs. This allows him to provide a comfortable, stress free, experience for all his patients.
Patients that benefit most from the use of conscious sedation techniques often suffer from:
- High fear and dental anxiety
- A severe gag reflex
- Acute or chronic soreness in the jaw
- Physical limitations like neck and back problems
- Time constraints (the need for more treatments in fewer visits)
If you or someone you love suffers from any of these conditions, or to learn more about DOCS and conscious sedation, please schedule a sedation dentistry consultation with sedation dentist, Terry W. Forsberg, DDS, at Advanced Smile Designs in Santa Cruz County, California today. Serving areas of Santa Cruz, Aptos, Watsonville, and Capitola.
