What is Full Mouth Restoration?
Full mouth restoration involves the treatment and rehabilitation of the entire mouth, including the teeth and gums. It is very important that a dentist who performs full mouth restorations is knowledgeable about every aspect of how the human mouth functions and affects others parts of your head, neck and body. This can vary from one patient to the next.
The TMJ (temporomandibular joints), the chewing muscles (masticatory muscles), the bite, speech, muscle tone and dimensions of the jaws, teeth and the rest of the mouth all relate to each other in terms of function. If one isn't working properly, chances are that it is affecting other areas as well and this will only worsen if left untreated.
Severe dental issues can make you feel miserable if left untreated. In order to treat serious problems, full mouth restoration is designed to combine the aesthetics of cosmetic dentistry procedures with scientific knowledge and treatment of the more problematic issues such as neuromuscular dentistry which is often called temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) or TMJ.
This condition is often at the root of many severe dental problems. In some situations, a patient's medical insurance may cover part or all of the costs associated with the treatment of TMJ / TMD dysfunction. Our patient concierge, Dixie, can work with you to obtain a pre-estimate of what your medical and/or dental benefits may cover prior to treatment.
Optimal jaw positioning must be determined through testing and diagnosis. Splint therapy or an orthodic are placed to verify the comfort of this position. Once you are comfortable for a period of time then restoration procedures are performed to repair the damage and restore health and function to the mouth, teeth and gums.
